W203 - opinions?

Hello,

My wife asked me to look into a W203 automatic (budget around £2.5k). Looking around the usual places I noticed there are several with less than 100k miles: is there some particularly expensive maintenance due by then? Timing chain perhaps?

Would be interested to know more about what to look out for, what to avoid etc., esp. what your experiences on the 4-cyl petrol models are. I cannot find it in HonestJohn but prehaps I'm gone senile early.

At that budget, A classes can be okay (recently helped a friend with getting one and the A class for the school run, foot ball mum trips was perfect) Facelift manual or CBT petrol or diesel are roomy inside, with raised driving position.

Reliability at that price will be boring but Japanese often

Rust on pre 2003 W203 cars can be bad
