Car
mercedes benz c220 cdi blueefficiency sport edition amg estate 2012
My 1st post...

Ive had my car (mercedes benz c220 cdi blueefficiency sport edition amg estate 2012) for a few weeks now I have some questions...

1. For heating on auto why does air con always light up I dont want it on as it uses extra fuel
2. Is there a list of similar cars to mine and their mpg (I got 65 average on a long run last week)
3. Is outside temp on available on one the the speed choices?

many thanks Shaun

Any financial savings to be had by not using aircon will soon be lost when your aircon fails through lack of use. It is designed to be on by default.

Outside temp should be displayed inside the MFD, on the section where it shows the mileage the cars done in the bottom right corner.

Crikey nice welcome chrisdean!!! I use air con every month to stop failure though

Thanks c180cgi yes it's a shame it's only on one screen

1- aircon should always be on, it doesn't use up that much fuel. You should be using decent stuff like shell V power or whatever it's called, you'll soon reap the benefits but as mentioned above, not using it would cost more if anything goes wrong. I hate using auto as its either always too hot or too cold. In fact the only 'auto' setting I'll use is the headlights. Auto wipers are essentially useless, wipes too fast or too slow, or just not when needed

2- wish I could get 65mpg!

3- can't help sorry, not something I've noticed but I'm sure it displays on mine

'Auto' actually means full climate control where you set the temp and that's it. If you want semi auto then press the auto and then deactivate the bits by overriding with the relevant button. In your case press auto and then the air con.

I too run my air con once a month as a minimum to keep the seals lubricated.

Otherwise I hope you're enjoying your car!!

thank you all, love the car had an X5 before but fancied a change and better mpg

No2 Do you mean your onscreen computer said 65 mpg or you calculated it?

Some things are personal opinion. I find the auto wipers pretty good and far from useless. I seldom use air con and never have , but it always works on those rare occasions Im too hot, but I doubt it uses much more fuel. Im not convinced on premium fuels either lots of discussion here though. The auto headlights are ok but I often find they don't come on as soon as I would like when its dull and I have to override.

Ive seen 65 and over 60 on several occasions but the 220cdi is more fuel efficient than my 200cdi.

I recon with a longer journey I could get nearly 70 mpg at just under 60mph

I saw 74mpg in the C220 Coupe last year touring around Europe

but have just changed the car to C350 CDI AMG Sport Plus, I am expecting to see a lot less MPG !!

74mpg is amazing

very warm conditions excellent roads and just taking it very easy

most days it was low 60's to high 50's mpg

Hopefully be doing a euro trip again next September but will spend more like around Lake Garda

Is it possible to view the MPG on mine then? (C200 cdi)

I haven't worked out how to view it yet!

On mine(facelift) its the control on the lhs of the steering wheel. Flick up and down and it shows outside temp and mileometer, then journey time and mpg etcnext one is total from reset
then distance left before refuel
then digital mpg.

The selection buttons on the wheel you mean? I tried flicking through there back when I bought it but couldn't get it up, I'll give it another try tomorrow :thumb:
