Car
W204 C220 CDI Sport in Iridium Silver with all the toys
Managed to bottom out my front spoiler on my C220 Sport at lunchtime - high curb in car park :(

Already taken it to my local MB dealer for a quote but they outsource their work locally so the quote will be "in the post". The spoiler/bumper is pretty scratched underneath but mostly where it cannot be seen. A few lighter scratches are visible on the front, but nothing thats noticeable without knowing there is something to see.

Basically i was wondering if anyone would have an idea as to how much this quote is going to come back for? I think its probably a whole spoiler prep and respray job.....

It depends on the colour, most damage down there cannot be seen in a blow in job as we call it,, I would have gone to a real small coach builder / spray shop where they would just do it in the one day alot cheaper than the MB one

it's Iridium Silver. Not saying I intend to go to MB to get the work done - thought it was worth getting a 'top end' quote. Its not an urgent repair that needs sorting immediately so will be shopping around. Have been put onto a place in shrewsbury by Graeme_H so will be getting another quote from them

That's a very easy colour to blend in, a little high powered thinners on the surrounding area and you will not see a thing

phew - thats reassuring!

How bad is the visible part of the damage?

Have you considered just buying a touch up pen and touching it in? The reason i'm saying is that i did the same on my old E55, had it repainted due a small scuff only to have my dad do the same again 2 weeks later!

noticeable enough for an obsessive compulsive like me! Lesson learned - avoid small car parks!

Think i will decide on a course of action once the quotes are in!

I had the front valance/spoiler done on my silver R129 after scraping it on a rock. A recommended local bodyshop (Vanleigh, in Molesey) did an immaculate job for not much money ... as Malcolm said it's an easy area to do.

Nice to see some things on the 204 haven't changed from the 203 - like low front spoilers prone to scraping on curbs ...

Mine has the same scars ...

I scraped mine too -- used a touch up pen -- then polished it out ...diamond black -- cant see it...

And if I could i could always then get a bodyshop involved - try it yourself first - cant make the job any more expensive it you dont like the results..

I would take some T cut to it first and see whats left.. probably not a lot..

the underside definitely won't T Cut. This other body shop place was closed so need to shop around some more - theres no rush to get the work done (would like it looking nice for the summer though)

Yep...my first post on my most hated topic.

I did exactly the same thing. I have a tenorite grey w204. Got it smart repaired...looked terrible...the job was good, but you could see it wasn't original. Ended up getting merc to do it, full strip, fill, and respray for just over £300 all in.

Looked just like new when i got it back.

Hello Esses boy and welcome :) Smart repairs cannot be much good due to the limitation of the materials that you can use in the open air, and as for trying in the winter,, the solvents stay wet for too long.

think i am going to go with official MB quote - just going to wait a few months for the inevitable second dink before i get it done :)

Reminds me of a friends father and his lovely Bentley Brooklands. Dinged the wheel arch and said the same. These things come in threes so I'll wait. Ding No.2 in the door (car park carnage) and sure enough ding no.3. A 6' wall fell on it, it was his wall too. But he was right though.
David.
