Hi all,

I sometimes prop my phone with google maps on in front of the screen in my C220, but of course it constantly falls over when cornering / accelerating, and gets very hot as it's resting against the screen. I'd like to find a product / come up with a way to do this so it can stand there securely. I thought about getting someone to 3d print a sturdy holder but if anyone has any good ideas that are easier than that, I'd love to hear them!

I don't like those ones that clip into an air vent or stick to the windscreen, they look cluttered and ugly

Look at the Brodit product range.

Either that, or get an Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto kit for your NTG4.5 infotainment system.

Does your radio not pick up google maps through your phone

Older versions of Audio20 and COMAND did not have native support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The more recent variants do support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but only as a paid-for option. And so, if the first owner didn't specify it, then the car won't have it (even if it's a later model that is capable of supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).

You're talking anything tethering.... COMAND 4.5 had limited apps that worked with tethered Internet access off the phone. The cooperation with Google stopped around 2015 from memory.

The maps for CPMAND NTG4.5 go only up to 2020 (that's 5 years ago), and that's assuming that the 2020 update was actually installed at the time.... Additionally, the TomTom real-time traffic info was only introduced in mid-2013, the last year the W204 was made, and it was short-lived anyway becuse it stopped working on the W204 once the 3G was shut down in the UK. And, COMAND does not support speed cameras alerts.

The Audio20 NTG4.5 system relied on the optional Becker Map Pilot navigation processor, and while it did support speed camera alerts, it never had the real-time traffic info option, and in any event, Becker went bust some time ago and no updates are available anymore.

Either of the above might work if you live and drive in a rural area where the roads do not change much over the years, and there's little traffic and therefore no need for real-time traffic info, but anywhere else the original car's navigation systems will simply not be good enough, especially when compared to Waze or Google/Apple maps.

OK mate cheers, i went on a 260 mile road trip on Saturday and their was a point where the navi didn't recognize the new road layout !!!! but it still got me to where i was going. so yeah its out of date but the end result is pretty much the same. its nice to use the cars satnav it saves plugging my tomtom in and sticking it to the screen, but its their if i really need it 👍
