Hi there,

I hope this message finds everyone well.

I recently picked up a 2022 Mercedes C63s (06/01/25) from Lougten Mercedes, which has 13K miles and seems to be in good condition. However, during the test drive, I noticed a strange oil warning light on the dashboard, which I brought to their attention. On the day I picked it up, they mentioned that they topped up the oil, but then realised they had added too much, so they had to drain some.

The odd symbol disappeared after that, but this morning when I started the car, the same oil symbol came back on but shortly after driving turned off again. Could anyone help me identify what this warning symbol means and whether it’s something I should be concerned about?

Thanks in advance for your help!warning dash.PNG

Have you read the manual?

The yellow symbol is for the Stop /Start. If in doubt go back to the dealer.

As above , its the stop / start system is not ready to save the planet - yet . Once it turns green the polar icecaps will stop melting.

Various parameters haven`t been met to let the battery take the load of what has been placed on it or the car isn`t warmed up enough , stopping and starting the vehicle to reset the "fault" will only deplete the battery further so either take it for a run to charge the battery or put it on a charger.

Just wot I said! ;) 🥱
And with a better quality image too ! I couldn't open the Dropbox earlier

Sorry fellas , but the images you are posting from the manuals looks nothing like the blue square the OP has posted it's not a good photo , need a better one. 👍

Hi amazing people !
I read the manual :-)
It comes up when there is a cold start then goes away - so what you guys have posted is helpful too! ❤️❤️
Glad it's sorted, my prefacelift never had such a dashboard sign. Any dash sign i see with a engine icon gives me the chills ...

Nice touch.

My 1978 Alfasud 1.3ti had two lights on the dash, one was the obvious engine overheating warning - but the other one was 'engine not reached working temperature yet' warning - it came up when I started the car and stayed on until the engine warmed-up properly. EDIT: Actually, now that I think if it, it was the same light, but had dual-function..

On the face of it, it's a sensible warning not to give it 'full beans' while the engine is cold. However (and in addition to the fact that - like most cars - the Alfasud had a standard temp gauge....), given the tiny 1.3L engine - OK, it was a two-stage Solex carb - it was obviously just a gimic added to the 'ti' sporty trim level, like the additional set of gauges in the ventral console.

Yup, it was a great little car, the 1.3ti... an aspiring C63, maybe? :D

Our BMW X1 doesn’t have a temperature gauge but shows a blue ‘thermometer icon’ when cold. A bit less alarming.

My 3er doesn't even have that and the temperature gauge has initially fooled many a person ( including me ) by being oil temperature, not water!

Now that you have established that the Warning was to do with the Temp of the Engine, I would be concerned with the fact that the Dealer assumed it was an Oil Warning and Filled and Overfilled the Oil! 🫣

My E93 M3 doesn't have an oil dipstick so you have to wait for either the engine to blow up or the oil reading to show up on the dash to let you know how your day is going to go 🤣
