Could any owner of the W205 tell me if the USB outlets in the centre storage console maintains power when the ignition key is removed and the car is locked?
Thanks for your input. I suspect that power might be maintained for a set period after the engine is switched off but that power will turn off either on a timer or when the car is locked otherwise there would be a risk that the car battery could flatten if power was maintained indefinably but your answer has now put some doubt in my mind. Anyone else got a view?
In my W204 I find that when the door is opened my iPod starts to charge but stops after a minute or so and when I take the key out of the ignition my iPod charges ago for a minute or so.
The engine hadn't been turned on for some time in my W205 estate and I just opened the door, sat down, and plugged my phone into each of the USB sockets in turn. Each socket powered the phone. I sat there for quite a while and the power wasn't disconnected in either socket. I expect after a period of time the USB ports will be switched off just like the radio is to prevent the battery being drained. It is not what you want though if you want a device to switch off with the ignition. For this you could use a USB adapter that plugs into the lighter socket since this socket is switched off with the engine.
If it does power down after say 15 minutes to an hour that is not a problem. Find it hard to believe that it would not power down at some point but so far no one with a W205 has confirmed this so I am still left wondering.
In my present Mondeo the USB only keeps going with the engine switched off if the radio is turned back on.
