My niece got in touch this morning saying her w205 steering column which normally moves out of the way when getting in the car will not move it's making a motor type noise but is stuck in one position. I have not had a look yet but thought if anyone else on here has experienced something similar they might shed some light on the problem, I'm planning to investigate further tomorrow.

There are other posts on this from my memory, search for it, i think u give it a bash and it will start again.

Is there something that can be done to fix this issue besides whacking it.

Look on here steering column adjustment faulty 204, theres a few clues and a link. But electrically pull right out and then rock it up and down.

Thanks I did that and its started working for how long is anyone's guess. I have seen a dog bone part that needs replacing, but for now all good.

It's a fairly common issue with many models. I've experiences the problem with the W212 and W213 E63

Mine stuck 18 months ago, I too tried to avoid the BFI solution (Brute Force and Ignorance) but in the end resorted to hitting it and pulling on it with my entire bodyweight, which got it working. Personally I set it to where I like it and haven't moved it since. My advice would be to do the same, the cost of repairing it far outweighs the inconvenience of not having it move when you get out the car, frankly.
