Hi everyone , I'm having some trouble with my 250 cdi . The car has 100k miles and a full mercedes history including two gearbox oil flushes. The problem im having is the gearbox. It has been perfect all along and then after a dealer did an update on the software has developed a slip / flare problem that they say is normal. So how It happens is. Car in D and slowly pull away bringing the car upto 2k revs not exceeding that the car then goes for 2nd gear but the revs don't drop the kinda hover around 2k and stay there until the cars speed increases and then goes into third and fourth and so on.if I take my leg off throttle the revs drop to 1500 and then will accelerate from there perfectly . All other gears are perfect. It only happens in c mode. It's perfect in m mode and s mode seems ok too. This was October last year . I drive it away until two weeks ago and the slipping got worse and worse until I replaced the box and torque converter with one from a similar car that had 60k and its the same. Not as bad as the one that I took out but about as bad as it had been after the update. I told the dealer about it getting worse and worse and slipping more as time went on but all I'm told is the software is the latest and we can't go back. They are trying to tell me it's normal for it to slip. I know it's not as ive driven other cars with 722.6 5 speed and they don't flare at all. The car also slips and flares for the first mile or two when Stone cold and I'm wondering what that is if anyone knows? Anyway im stuck in a rut of what my options now are . If anyone can help or comment Id love to hear . Thanks in advance Tom

Take it back. Do a road test with the dealers top tech. Show them the fault and explain your issue.

I asked for a tech and was told no! The only guy who came with me was the service manager who after me doing the problem twn times in a row said I don't see a problem. He said this in October and by jan the old box was ruined. I only replaced the gearbox and torqu converter 11 days ago and the car is at the dealers with 7 days tomorrow. He rang me today to say star says no faults and that he drove another and it's the same! Albeit a brand new 7g to which I answered I am currently driving a c class 7g all wk and it does not do the same as mine, could the slip be a torque converter issue? Or is it really the 2014/2015 software should not be put on a September 2009 car?

Got the car back after 7 days and it's still broken the service manager said we can see it's driving a little unusual but there is no new updates and nothing we can do sorry. Also asked if it wears out the gearbox due to slipping what will mercedes do to help and he said zero it's not showing faults or codes so in theory it's perfect and not our problem. I don't know what to do now :-(

See the dealer principle. Organise a meeting. Put it in writing.

Ask to speak to the workshop foreman. It's their job to speak to customers and road test cars with customers.

Every dealer has an area troubleshooter that is used for these situations. Don't give up whatever you do.
