i am about to get my w208 resprayed apart from the roof the arches are quite bad , would it be better to repair the front arches or would it be more benifical to get 2 new wings ? and just repair the rear?
does anyone have a how to on removing wings , and a supplier of good priced gear ? cheers

I had a fair bit of bubbling on my front arches and they have been repaired well - I guess if they are bad they could be swapped - lets have the pics and see:)

can anyone talk me throgh bumper removal ? is it diffecult?

The fastenings are:
Wheel arch liner to bumper - plastic studs at the rear bottom of the wheel arch liner.
Bumper sides to rear wing - one self-tapping screw at the very front tip of the bumper side, screwed upwards into the wing, accessed from inside the wheelarch, just behind the edge of the wheel arch liner.
Bumper sides to rear wing - self tapping screws going downwards from the wing into the bumper sides, accessed inside the boot, after removing the interior side trims/carpets.
Main bumper mountings - 6mm bolts fastening the bumper to the rear boot sill, accessed from inside the boot after removing the plastic sill trim.

I've seen far worse than that - good preparation etc should be ok - dont need new wings

Now I've seen the pics on the other post this pic must be its better side - hmmm  Correct my previous statement I have seen some bad ones mine had a fair amount of surface rust but thats got it everywhere

Hi mrcgibb- My CLK also had this problem. The front wings were replaced under the Mobilo 30 year warranty. The back arches did not start to get bad until the 8 year good-will period was up. Mercedes insists this is surface rust and not covered by the perforation warranty. I did not believe them until I thoroughly removed the rust to reveal shiny metal underneath ! I had to use a stripping disc to remove loose rust then a dremel with a cutting disc used edge-on ! The dremel has the high speed required (37000 rpm). I then treated the area with a chemical to ensure removal of any pits of corroded metal it was - Deox Gel (Bilt Hamber) then sprayed with Electrox Zinc primer before applying final colour and lacquer. This seems to be holding for the past 2 winters of corrosive salt.

Mobilo only covers if you have a full MB service history, and how many W208 CLKs will have that. You need to strip off all the loose paint, rust and see if you still have a seal, if its gone through, you may need a repair panel. then its prime and paint. If you can get on top of the rust then maybe a professional respray of the affected areas. Pattern front wings are available, not sure about how well they fit, or get a good secondhand replacement wing and spray that up.
