Ok I'm working through the list of jobs on my car and trying to work out what I can do in my garage and what I need to book in with a trusted Indie now I no longer have the trade facilities to work in.

So W208 CLK 230K left and right + rear (transmission) mounts. DIY job with jack and stands or one for a ramp and engine hoist? Hard or easy anybody had it done and if so how much. I reckon if I had the ramp and engine hoist 2 hours max?

Any thoughts?

f1, I had a look at mine a while back and it seems practical to change then on the ground with the car on axle stands using a trolley jack & a block of wood to support the engine (doing one mount at a time) and a t/jack again to support the g/box, ideally a four poster lift would be ideal but, a small garage wants sixty quid to do the job, so guess what...

Thats my thoughts too I've got a lot of mates in the trade but it always the same everyone comes before you if it s mates rates and they wont take full rates so its catch 22  I presume that's £60 for fitting with you supplying the parts? Wish I could find someone to do it for that :thumb:

Yeah, that's the labour charge. The parts (Febi or Meyle) worked out at about €130 iirc.

Had a local ring round this morning cheapest labour only quote I could get was £165 which I reckon is 3 - 4 hours labour. I reckon 2 hours tops, does anyone know the official workshop time for this job? Parts come to £98 trade so looks like I'll be borrowing a ramp and getting my hands dirty.

165! The guy that looked at mine (don't know him) reckoned a couple of hours, oh and mine are shot. Anyway, f1 get them done as mounts caused two of the I.C. mounting bolts to snap on the N/S chassis rail.
