I have a occasional, intermitant 'crackle' in one speaker channel of my W208 convertible Comand system - which is driving me nuts ....can anyone help? It only affects the smaller of the two door speakers in the off-side door.

Presuming I had a ker-nackered speaker in the door, I replaced them all with excellent JBL units, but the damned crackle is still there.....so I guess it's a cable/connection problem.

Has anyone had experience of a similar problem or a suggestion on location where I should start checking wiring - before I rip the whole loom out ....?

Cheers,

CH

I have the same annoyance on my W203 estate, have you managed to sort out the problem? I know it's a probably a cable issue as I've checked the connections to the speaker and the comand unit and these are all nice and tight. I've also checked the wiring from the speaker to as far into the B pillar as I can see, my next plan of attack is to remove the B pillar cover to see if I can see any chaffing on the loom.

Interestingly the auto window up function has just stopped working on this side too...grr!

speaker crackle sounds like bad continuity from one of the feeds , clean the contacts with electrical contact spray and check . 50/50 chance of it being + or - ,your system may use the chasis for the negative chanel disconect the negativefrom the speaker then try grounding the - speaker terminal and see if it works , if it does you can easily find somewhere to make a permanent connection . make sure you check to see if the speaker works first before you make a permanent connection as if its a dedicated channel you may blow it
