Hi all,

I'm not sure my sub is working properly. First step is check the wiring. My problem is I don't know where to find the sub, nor the wiring!

I can't see it in the boot and I can't tell how to remove the rear seats if its under there. Does anyone know where it is located?

I can see eight speakers in the car 6 at the front and two at the back on the parcel shelf.. but where is the sub?

Pictures below of the sub itself taken from ebay.

Thanks all,

Hi there , is yours a cabrio , and does it have the Bose setup ?

I have a very vague recollection that I came across mine on my W208 (9 years ago) behind one of the rear door trims (if it had rear doors if you see what I mean) - its very vague and may well be wrong.

Turn it up and sit in the back and see if you can work out which bit of you is being vibrated most !

Umm I am sure I saw on another thread, the above picture of sub and port would be from the cab version of the CLK, with the end of the sub port porting into the cabin between the two rear seats. . .

Good luck on the search,

Personally I am either going to fit 6x9 woofers in rear shelf or hide my active sub somewhere....

Cheers

I've never understood the fascination with 6x9s, too many cancellation nodes for decent response. There's good reason why very few studio, hifi and pro sound speakers are elliptical.

It comes in under the rear seat arm rest.

Only on the cab , not on the coupe ;)

Do coupes without Bose have a sub ?

I would not be surprised......

Though during my 1st day of CLK ownership, I did check the Audio 10 thinking the bass was turned up all the way or loundness was switched on. It wasn't.

May just upgrade the head unit and leave the speakers till sometime later, as I am impressed with the stock sound.....for now :-)

Cheers Ian
P.S. Nice pic of the sill.....

I've not found the sub in mine yet :o

2 Tweeters by the mirrors , 2 speakers in the lower leading and 2 in the back edge of the door and also 2 on the parcel shelf ....

I am almost embarrased to say on a public forum I have still not found the sub!

Perhaps like my cup holder, it was removed by the previous owner, or the garage!

I released the larger of the two rear seats and folded foward. On the boot facing side I found two screws behind the centre arm rest cavity. Aha! I thought.... However, nothing inside nothing but an empty cavity. I lifted up the felt/cardboard centre peice between the two rear seats - also empty.

I ripped out everything in the boot and removed a plastic tray covering the top quarter or so of space. Also nothing.

It may well be in the side wall of the boot, but there was no way in other than ripping out all the coverings. A bridge too far.. Through a process of elimination I think that's also the only place the Amp can be too!

As suggested by someone else, I'm going to burn a CD of low frequency effects and find out if i can make it spring into life!

Thanks for the benzworld links, i will signup to view the DIY pics in case they help

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that i don't think the coupe has a sub

The cabrios had a sub because they had no rear shelf speakers . My old cabrio had a sub between the rear seats firing under the armrest , mine was a stock w208 item , but i know that Bose do a sub that fires out in the same place , but i've only ever seen it on a cab with the Bose kit.

My current coupe AFAIK doesn't have a sub because it has rear shelf speakers. My dad has a coupe too , with a Bose kit in it , and once again AFAIK he doesn't have a sub either ...

Think the sub is a cabrio specific product.

seeing as the previous owner prob had to shell out the best part of £30 for it , im not surprised it was removed. I remove all mine too.

Scrub that, I just won a set of kenwood speakers on e-bay which will replace all stock speakers, delivered under £50. Fingers crossed.

If you want to add more bass I did notice kenwood do some powered 6x9 subs which would fit in the rear shelf.

Be careful that they are shallow enough to fit the baskets in the doors ...

I have a pair of Infinity refernce sitting in my garage that i bought to swap the speakers in mine and they are too deep :(

Thanks Howard great tip, and quite funny as I was thinking infinity if I bought new. Can you not fit them in rear shelf, or you already have some nice speakers in there.

At this price I can afford to resell them if they don't fit, with a limited amount of loss.

Will look up depth later tonight after I have done some more waxing.

Cheers Ian

No , they were for the lower rear speakers in the doors ... must sell them soon
