Hi all,

I’m in the market for a w209 CLK500 and am hoping you guys could tell me anything I should be wary of and look out for when buying. I.e. known problems and issues and also what spec options should i be aiming to get as minimum.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and anyone looking to sell their clk500 is more than welcome to get in touch

The usual stepper motor issues behind the dash which is part of the heating system, also common on the W203... a very common issue... I had a 2003 CLK500 many moons ago and loved it, mine also spat the rear main seal for some reason but after all that a great car....

EGR valve clicking under light load,
Stepper motor in the dash as above,
Rear sam's can give intermittent faults,
Rear antiroll bar corrosion and bushes,
Rust Rear arches better 2004 onwards,
Rear main on the m113, Rocker cover leaks and breather hoses
ATF fluid change on time, No atf dip stick on my 7g box'd car as its fill to spill.
Rear Rose buses in the hub can wear out causing wayward handling
Creaking Rear shocks too.

I love mine, great car, Smooth powerful relaxed drive but no sports car, Try and get one with Xenon's and heated seats,

I also wanted to ask if you know what the full option spec looks like for the car as I’ve seen this photo and am not sure if it’s genuine, could someone please inform me what a full spec button layout is

If you are not set on the 500 , I saw a forum member selling a 350 earlier today

That's not a UK car photo.
Do you know what a fully specced option would look like

Ideally would be a 500 as I would’ve liked to put a wide body kit on it and it wouldn’t be right without the v8 sound. Unless any sort of exhaust system could even come close

Thanks W1ghty :-). Appreciate the plug.
I own a V8 (not Mercedes) and I agree that the sound is intoxicating but I was really surprised by the sound from the factory AMG exhaust on the v6. It’s my CLK350 for sale BTW.
I’ve never driven the 500 but I recall thinking how quiet one was when I saw/heard it moving. I’d bet it will be smoother than a silkworm’s tie but I think you’ll need to do a lot of exhaust work to get it to sound the way you want. It’s not something I would do personally but to each their own. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Could I see the car and pricing please I’d be interested in a 350 potentially but will keep my options open

Like this, but with a rear blind button in the blank switch location.

A widebody kit would look awful.
I.e the black series kit, as I think it’s the only clk version I quite like the look of. Without the 6.3 badges everywhere ofc

Also does the car not have a cooling seats option?
