When I got the car the only keys I got were a remote and 3 other small remote keys. The remote batteries was dead so I have replaced the batteries, still it doesn't lock.
Central locking/unlocking works off the button on the dash,I can manually unlock the boot and passenger door with the key.
At the moment I have to push all the locks down, climb out the passenger side and then lock with the key.Is there a way to get it to lock all the doors via the key? I gather I'm missing a couple of keys,I believe these are around £200,is this correct?

Many thanks

You may have to re-syncronise the key. The instructiuons are in the handbook.

What kind of remote do you have and will it pass the test below?

I've got the one with the red plastic on.I changed the batteries and checked them and they are both kicking out 3volts.I just noticed the metal contact that should push on the top was squashed to the bottom.Lifted it up but still no light so I'm guessing its just a dead remote.

That contact has to be on top off the batteries when the cover is put back on, suggest you test the fob again only this time leave the battery compartment cover off, hold the contact down on top of the batteries with your thumb and test again for the Red batteries indicator light.

If you feel that you have fixed the bent contact correctly but fail to get a Red light when you press the button then it is possible that a tactile switch on the circuit board is faulty.

The tactile switches 4 legs can become detached from the key fob circuit board and may need to be resoldered back on to the circuit board.

The key fob can be prised opened into 2 halves along its length, observe how it comes apart and be careful not to lose any small components inside the fob.

I'm so glad I joined up :-) It was so tight getting it open but before it was fully open the switch fell out. I'll solder it back on and see how I go. Thank you so much for your help.

You may have to re-syncronise the key. The instructiuons are in the handbook.

As suggested above, you may still have to re-syncronise the key, not sure how that is done on your particular car but try;

Sit in driver seat,
Point key fob at DOOR HANDLE? or REAR VIEW MIRROR?
Press fob button twice in quick succession.
Put key in ignition and turn to position 2 (ignition ON) within 30 seconds

Ok,got it soldered and back together, not springing out right yet but I'll sort that in a minute.Lights up so off outside to try and synchronise it.

Right,it lights up,it locks and unlocks.You are a star! :-)
When I lock it,the green light on the handle and mirror flash for what seems like ages.Is this normal?

Don’t know about your car but on my C180 the Green or Red flash for about 5 seconds.

When you unlock, the Green flashes and the immobiliser is disabled…car will start.
When you lock, the Red flashes and the immobiliser is enabled…car will not start, also the Red and Green will flash ALTERNATLEY if the key is turned to position 2… which is ignition on.

Glad you got it fixed.

If you don't fancy a soldering job....

hi
I only saw this post after I managed to fix my key. I have a 1996 E320 and all of a sudden the key stopped unlocking the car. I changed batteries in the fob but no joy. Couldn't see the infrared light in a camera. So I asked my dealer and nearly keeled over at the price....£300 or so!

So I searched eBay and found a person who offers a £30 postal repair voucher for most Mercedes keys. And what's more they offer a money back guarantee. So I stuck my remote in the post, it arrived back 2 days later and I synchronised it with the car again. My manual says open car, click remote at rearview mirror twice, then put in ignition and turn to position 2, but don't start engine, and wait a bit. I had to do it twice til it worked.

And great that it does too. So to help all those MB owners out there, I am posting the details here:
Repair Voucher Mercedes E Class W210 Remote Key Fob 1B on eBay (end time 15-Apr-11 16:41:21 BST)

If that link is dead by the time you read this, try calling on 07826 459737 or 01780 408427.
