W210 E280 Misfiring and refusing to rev!!!

I'm not totally convinced it is the MAF, my indie has told me that the first thing he would do is to replace the MAF, after that the coil packs........ No codes is pretty odd I thought??

As an experiment whilst my mate was playing with his oscilloscope we actually unplugged some of the coil packs and the engine logged no codes!

Cant see it being the coils though as why would they die after only a short time standing?

Maybe you need someone who can actually use the star? ie can you activate the throttle from the star?

MAF doesnt always register codes... we have seen this many times.

Must be a member local to you who can lend you his maf for ten minutes ad only a 30 second job to remove.

Assuming its the maf in the intake pipe and not the one at the back of the vee.

WHAT??? There is more than one MAF  I've just ordered one from ECP, £106 I hope that's the problem!!!!

star can check the maf function.

on your car two live tests can be done with star. firstly the maf voltage is checked with ignition on engine not running, it should be somewhere between 0.970v and 1.030v - star will give the parameters.

the other test is done at 3,500 rpm and the required minimum voltage is again specified by star.

these tests can be selected through the 'full list of guided test' menu or the 'full list of fault codes' menu.

star is a very powerful utility but when people only look for fault codes they are wasting its potential.

Just a question if the cylinder is not working on a 6 cylinder car, would it struggle to pick up speed, as i went to see a car and it wud struggle to go past 70mph, and was misfiring at idle in drive.... Is this a sign of a cylinder misfiring?

I'm surprised it was the MAF, as when you diconnected it it still ran like a dog? I would of expected the car to run normal with it disconnected?
