W210 E320 CDI newbie questions

Hi I've just purchased a 2001 E320 CDI Avantgarde, one owner from new and only 23k on the clock but have a few questions;

- when starting the car there is a 'fumey' smell, which I also sometimes get when sitting in traffic.
- the glow plug light stays on for few a minutes after the car has started. Should it go out a few seconds after turning the ignition on?
- at the front of the turbocharger there is an electrical plug and hose. Its very oily around this area. Could it be a loose pipe or too much pressure?

Any information/advice on the above would be grately appreciated.

1 - most likely a fuel leak. Look around the fuel filter, check the fuel lines - can you see any air in there? Check when running, before starting, and after killing the engine

2 - One of your glow plugs is dead - get them all changed together

Remove the plastic over above the engine and check if the injectors are dry.A known problem that the injector bolts loosen and start to loose pressure ( the smell ) .
