Hi all,

This for anyone who has a leaky or dodgy water pump:eek:

I was trying to get someone to replace my water pump, but I wanted someone who could fit it in this century and I didn't have to remortgage the house to pay them:crazy:

I eventually got fed up with mechanics sucking air through their teeth and scratching their heads:fail

So I decided to do it myself(I've never changed a water pump in my life). I got an e-manual for a tenner. I started stripping the car at 2pm on Saturday (18/01), and had the old pump on the bench by 4.30pm.

I decided to call it a day and returned today (19th) at 2pm and returned home at 6pm with my car and no leaks:rock::bannana:

I tell all here that if you take your time and do your research you can do this too. I saved a small fortune, but I enjoyed doing it more than actually saving the money:D

I know it took 6 1/2 hours to do in total, which is probably twice the time an MB mechanic would take, but the satisfaction I got was worth it. I can't wait for the head scratching mechanic to get back to me to give me his estimate and I tell him it's done(by me).:D

Good luck all.

That's my thinking too.

Changed the water pump on my 6 cylinder engine several years ago, been perfect ever since.

Book time on mine was 6 hours and I did it over a relaxed weekend.

Agree that advance research and collection of any specialist tools and parts is the key to success.

Feeling of satisfaction afterwards, akin to winning the lotto I would
imagine.

Tinytots how did you do the Water Pump ?

Tinytots I need to do mine what E-manual did you use ? where from
What Tools did you need ?
Access is very tight how did you remove the Fan ?
Thanks Boyd

Couldnt agree more. I had recent similar experience with the plastic fuel lines on my w210 320cdi. Although not so many 'relaxed weekends' in my house with 3 young kids - more a case of late nights after work ! Lots of research, the right tools & patience. Save money and have satisfaction and piece of mind.
