Afternoon all,
Forgive the post but this search seems harder than I thought.
My Father is in the market for a W210 E55 AMG. He previously expressed interest in the W211 but despite the performance uplift, after driving one his heart remained firmly with the W210.
I work abroad often but as he has no idea how to use the Internet I am doing best to coordinate things for him from out here, in China, although home end if month to view with him.
Facelift or pre-fl considered, so in other words 1996-2001 MY.
The car MUST be rust-free, or nominally affected at best but this should be reflected within the price.
Mileage, again all considered but I'd like to find something with under 100k.
Options... really his top are heated seats (front and rear) with electric memory on the front. Anything else is a bonus but whatever it is it should be fully working. Nav is now so old it doesn't matter but if it has it, again it should work.
Before I went away we saw two cars back to back in the High Wycombe area. Never have we see such utter heaps of cr4p which were totally misdescribed both on paper and over the phone. One had stickers stuck to the inside of the windscreen that followed a huge crack in attempt to cover it up, it had moss growing inside (on an aftermarket Nav also, WTF) and it was straight piped (advertised as "original"). Another appeared to be pulled out from underneath a muck spreader, the door card fell off as we opened the drivers door and the engine was sprayed top to bottom in oil; orginal maybe but not pristine as described. We can only assume that the photos provided were of some age.
I understand that these cars are old, so we are totally realistic, we're just hoping for a better experience this time that won't waste our time and money.
We're located in Surrey but will travel for a good, honest car. Be warned mind that my Father was a Mercedes master tech for decades before opening his own business. We've built many cars together so, we'll see through any BS within 5secs of seeing the car. If you drag us to Scotland and it turns out to be rotten, leave us your cheque book for the trouble :-D although I'm turning to you guys (enthusiasts) in hope of avoiding that which we went through before.
Cheers.
