W210 e55

Not at all, solely interested in the car and its previous owners.
I have no connection to the seller whatsoever.

Yet you felt the need to post your sole post defending the seller of the vehicle. As said above, previous owners have stated it has more owners than specified in the advert.

A wise man once said, if it looks like fish, tastes like fish and smells like fish. It's probably fish.

This one must be especially fubared. But very, very cheap.

Mercedes Benz E55 AMG | eBay

It's a shame there hasn't been any good condition facelifts on ebay. As that is what I am after, but all I find are quite a few dirt cheap dogs and a few decent ones priced at more than what I believe they are worth.

Still.... 1K... Might be alright for someone with an E55 already, looking for rolling spares.

Wheels are worth half that.

Strip out some spares - engine/gearbox etc and weigh in rest. Tempted if I had more space.

Sounds strange about the tappets. Unusual fault for an M113? Hopefully not run low on oil if it's been leaking and driven for 25k miles.

Failing oil supply to that bank of cylinders and badly worn cam lobes, possibly? Does anyone know, if the M113 is run low on oil for a long time, which (if either) bank of cylinders wears first and worse?

The seller obviously believes/hopes to persuade possible buyers that the low revs are caused by a tappet problem, and he's changed one, so presumably they're quite noisy. I can't help wondering how a tappet problem would restrict the revs unless it was VERY severe, though. Unless the engine when running sounds like several skeletons break-dancing on a corrugated iron roof, on general principles it sounds more likely to be a fuelling problem to me.

If it's not the tappets, what else might it be?
