Hello Everyone.

Firstly thanks for looking at this post.

I was driving my 1999 E320 CDI the other day and stopped at the traffic lights when all of a sudden the car cut out. I tried and tried to start it again but it would not start.

I called the AA and waited about an hour for them to turn up and when the AA arrived he sat in the car and cranked it over and started first time.

He advised me it could be a injector problem and I should get it checked out.

This brings me to Today I drove the car to a friends house I when I arrived I turned the car off while waiting, after about ten minutes I tried starting the car and again it would crank over but not start I left it about half an hour and it started.

Any ideas anybody any advise would be welcome.

Kind regards

PeteK

Injector fault is the most likely as it the rail pressure monitor.

Get the injector leak off checked.

Unusual for an injector fault to cut the car out once running though.
It could be the crank angle sensor going South.

I would also go for the crankshaft sensor, they measure 1kΩ when good and 99kΩ when bad

I would second that as we have recently had a W211 with exactly the same problem. Does seem to be a Merc weakspot as my wife's A210 Evo has also just needed a crankshaft sensor.

Most certainly sounds like an injector. CAUTION: I have had exactly the same problem twice, in Southampton and central London. The first was rectified by a fantastic guy from Mobilo, for less than £200 total, in just under an hour. The central London one was the nightmare of the year, Mobilo can no longer fix at roadside, main dealer ( probably the biggest in West London) "had nobody available to look at it until tomorrow" and when they did, and this is totally true, they didn't have an injector! When completed, the job came to just over £500.

Thanks to all who viewed and replied......

I have just had the car back from my local dealer.

They replaced 5 injectors at a little over 1200 pounds.

Oh well its doen now i hope.

Again thanks for your help all!!!

Hi, Had similar problem with my E320CDI last week, once running fine, then after stopping try to start and just cranking would not start, took the car to a independent with STAR diagnostics, and checked leak off from injectors found 5 and 6 leaking to much fuel off, so ordered new injectors, but thought before fitting them i would try cleaning them, so bought a 500ml bottle of wynns common rail injector cleaner, took the filter out of the fuel filter housing then removed all of the diesel untill empty and filled up with the injector cleaner with a new filter, fired her up no problems now for three days, starts every time first turn, after all in the injectors all that can go wrong is dirt getting in there really, so try this first before shelling out £204+vat per injector, Dave

Sad to say that the car started playing up again! thought the cleaner had done the trick but today same problem cranking refusing to start, so bit the bullit and fitted two new injectors, now only time will tell, bought a pressure rail sensor seal kit also from merc just in case it needs doing aswell, will keep posted Dave,

Other firms send them away and have them re conditioned, they are returned the next day at a fraction of the price that you paid
