Can anyone help please I have a metal booming from the rear on the near side when I go over the smallest of bumps to the largest bumps. It sometimes transfers to the offside but only when the o/s wheel goes over a large bump.
I have had everything out of the back and even put 16 inch wheels on, I have checked everything with the wheel off and all I can see is a slight bit of extra movement on the axel bush. The coil spring and all links, bars seem to be OK.
HELP IT IS SENDING ME MAAAAAD!!!!!!!

There should be no movement at all at the rear.

Are the subframe bushes ok?

Just been through every post on the subject on here relating to this issue and your reply just confirms it.
What a wierd noise for this problem to make. It sends you barmy.
If I were closer to Portmouth it would be straight to you as all the other posts on this subject have got to the same conclusion but with a lot of going around the houses to get there.
Thanks for the info it is much appreciated.

have you checked the heat shield around the back box, the bolts on mine had corroded so the shield was loose.

I have a w210 estate and I am also hearing the same kind of noise, Its been on my mind but has not bothered me too much. Will these need to be replaced very soon or can I stil carru on driving and get em changed when I can?

Are these subframes bushes expensive to fit?

I have been to MB and a mechanic asures me it is the self leveling hydropnumatic strut. At MB it was just shy of £400 but just got one off ebay @ £45.

I will give it a go and let you know.

No good on the rear strut, so much for that MB mechanic then...

It is booked in to have new rear subframe bushes next.

Hi Usuf, If you can live with the noise it will be fine but after trying to do the bushes myself without a bush puller the car does wonder to the left a bit now.

This may be another effect of worn bushes?

Cheers

Hi N70GP, That was one of the first places I checked along with the exhaust and also removed everything from the back of the car.

Thanks.
