W210 estate?

rust

I have run an 02 plate E240 estate for 14,000 miles, no challenges save new rear damper and springs, good value as car cost £1450

Is it a DIY job? Are the shocks expensive, I have noticed the rust issue, tidy ones are out there though

if you are hand with spanners then you could change springs I guess (way above my pay grade), rear shocks are over £300 a side if you get Merc parts others are available, fronts are std and will be sub £100.

No, it would be aftermarket parts, not worth spending £600 on a £1500 car

W210s
Great cars
Problems ... Rust Rust and Rust.
Otherwise ... Good workhorses.

They are alot of car for the money these days

As mentioned, downside is rust

Dodgy link. Search for "210 buyers guide" should appear then!

I am looking for a daily hack, something to run the kids around in, and use for work etc,

W210s seem good value for money, if a little ugly

What are the main problems with them?
Why so cheap?

Something like this

Mercedes-Benz E Class E320 CDi Avantgarde 5dr Tip Auto 3.2

A great car, very practical for Family needs and work, I bought mine after having had Volvos in the past, didn't want a people carrier as I think they are converted vans and found the w210 e320cdi Avantgarde the perfect answer, look after them and they will look after you, all the usual toys and more in the Avantgarde and around 50 mpg on a decent run, so whats not like, parts are not expensive compared to most models and some have a bit of rust on the wings which can either be taken care of or a new wing costs about £100.00 plus the cost of paint spraying.
As for being a bit ugly, no way, I have had some good comments from other car drivers who have said how good the Avantgarde looks, I guess this is in eye of the beholder if you like the look of the w210 or not.
Find a good one as I did and you will be well pleased.

Awesome cars, I loved mine.

I had a 335i sport touring when my son was born, and the 335i just wasn't big enough to hold the dog and all his crap too, so I bought an early facelift E320 V6 in old man green with beige leather.
I loved it so much I sold the 335i.

That is the car that got me hooked on Mercs, the E320 W124 was great, but the W210 was the one that got me hooked on them. I do prefer the facelift W211, but prefer the W210 over the W212, which says a lot about how good they are.

Is the W211 ok? Just been looking at those too as they seem to be reasonably priced, looking at a E240 at £3500 on a 53 plate

Valeo radiator leaks and writes off the gearbox, but you would be unlucky for that to happen now.

SBC brakes have 200,000 pedal presses and then the pump needs to be replaced, costs between £1000-1500 to do.
This tends to be from around 120k, but you never really know and no way of telling.

Apart from that they seem OK.

But the SBC thing does put me off somewhat.

From June 2006 build the facelift comes in, sorts all the issues.

I wouldn't want a 240, very greedy with fuel, I would get a 320 or a diesel.

I'm still very happy with my 2002 W210 E320CDI AVANTGARDE 7 Seater Estate, as I said in my previous post:thumb:

Rust. Mine has done 150k, only unexpected bill in 35k was £85 to refurbish an injector.

I like it still.

.....also, I reckon I could just stretch to a C32 AMG.
