Hi everyone - yet another question for you - I hope one day I can give something back to this community rather than just take!!
I've found a problem with the stereo in that the sound appears to be biased to the left at low volumes, only appearing clearly central again when the volume is turned up. In fact, if I "bounce" the volume up quickly and then down to the level I want to listen, very often that will fix it temporarily with the sound balance appearing 'central' again. I don't know a great deal about this, but could it be a loose connection is somehow "made" again when the current increases to a certain level? Alternatively, could it be that a speaker is damaged or sticking?
I believe the speaker locations to be front main speaker at the bottom of the door with a tweeter in the mirror triangle (the dashboard speaker grills I understand to be there for phone speakers, not hi-fi..??). The rear doors have a speaker each, and the rear parcel shelf has a pair of speakers, but what appears to be cut-outs for four.
So.... I've looked but can't work out how to get at the tweeters in the door without breaking anything - is there a 'secret' to how to get at these? As the main speaker in the door seems to always be OK and the tweeter seems to be the one muted, I am tempted just to check the integrity of the physical connections here. It would be good to understand the cable path - and where the cross-over is I guess....
Could my problem be faulty speakers, wiring, head unit? The car was retro-fitted with APS-30 satnav head unit.
I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to pulling and shoving things without an understanding of the consequences, so guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated. Pity My Haynes hasn't seen fit to publish a repair manual for the W210 E class, hey!
Cheers,
Jeremy
