Hello I am a new member to the forum and the very proud owner of my 2009 C220 CDI lovingly referred to as Ruby Tuesday!
Ruby and I have been together for 3 weeks and no problems. She's done 23,000 and has had a loved life.
I owned a 2002 C220 Cdi diesel before and she used to give me 55-60 mph on a run. Ruby is only giving me 43 mph on motorway runs. I wondered if it was the MAF sensor but she had her due B service last week and star diagnostics didn't show anything wrong. I am a lady learning to understand how my car works ...
can anyone please tell me if the MAF sensor would definitely show up on Star diagnostics? Also she seems noisier going up through her automatic transmission and labouring to get up to a good speed.
Secondly, today I started her and popped her in reverse and she seemed to jump back as the gear was selected. Then when I drove away in first (in auto mode) she seemed to jump again then the steering was heavy and ESP, ABS and cant read tyre pressure signs came up then the car told me there were 4 messages but I have forgotten the fourth thing. I returned home and switched her off. I wondered if one of the tyres was dodgy as the steering had gone heavy but no all the tyres are the right pressure. I left the car for 45 minutes then started her - no warnings and seems to be back to normal. I am very concerned about this.......on one other very brief occasion the ESP triangle did light but I thought perhaps it was a little wheel spin on some gravel. The only thing I have done was use the footbrake fr the first time last night. Is there an outside chance this has caused a problem? It is fully released. Any help gratefully received by a damsel in distress!!!
Many thanks

A new member that joined in 2010?

You seem to be asking about a number of problems, so it may be better to start your own thread?

I assume you are referring to an increase in fuel consumption and have mistakenly written mph instead of mpg?. Increased fuel consumption can be due to a number of reasons, a faulty thermostat can cause this, is the engine temperature normal after a run?

Hello - thanks for your reply.

My husband and I did join in 2010 but this is the first time I have wanted to ask anything and I used the same log on. I really don't know why it matters to you and why you seem quite hostile in your response. It is disappointing because I thought the whole idea with forums is for enthusiasts to encourage one another and help each other out. I am disappointed that you seem suspicious of me and also felt the need to correct mph to mpg rather than just showing a little grace.

I think you need to be a little less judgmental in your assumptions of how a post is intended to be read!

There was absolutely no hostility in my response and my advice was apposite.

You had joined an existing thread and were asking some questions that were not directly related to that thread, hence my advice to start another so you might receive more appropriate answers to your questions.

In that respect I provided you with the appropriate help that, as you rightly suggest, is one of the prime reasons for such forums.

As for correcting your mph to mpg, why is that ungracious? A lot of people make errors when typing out posts, I know I have.

Clarity when answering and trying to help(again one is taken back to the raison d'être for the forum) is important for the benefit of all. I hope you managed to solve your problems.
