I can hear a knocking noise coming from the front right of the car when going over speed bumps. I took the front right wheel off and could not see any loose bolts or worn bushes and the suspension looked ok. Obviously bushes are under much greater strain when under load and a simple inspection may not have found the problem.

Has anyone else experienced any knocking noises on a W211 and identified what they related to. The car is a Nov 2003 registered model with 94k on the clock and has standard suspension, not air.

Thanks

Carl

I may be able to help.

The Anti Roll Bar has a link to the lower arm and these joints can wear and cause a knocking.

Your lower ball joints too may cause a knock also. There is a service measure on these at dealers at the mo. Give them a buzz and quote the chassis number and then they can tell you the outsatnding recalls etc.

The shocker can cause knocking but is the most unlikely suspect.

Hope this helps

There was a recall on W211 front suspension mounting bolts, athough this type of issue is also associated with ball joint wear.

You might want to check with an MB dealer that all applicable recall & service campaign items have actually been done on your car.

Thanks for the responses. It looks like it has had new ball joints fitted on the side that is knocking. I will speak to the local merc garage to find out if the work has been performed as part of a recall.
