My w211 e240's audio 20 head unit had a crack on the screen and a cd jammed in it for 2 years and i finally got a replacement unit from ebay, i installed the new (used) unit and it worked fine but I got a "NO CDC" & "NO PHONE" message on the head screen and both the cd changer and the phone don't function at all, my original head unit is a 2003 model # MF 2310 and the replacement is a newer model # MF2311 2005 - 2007 (?).
I thought I may have damaged the optical or power cables swapping them over so reinstalled the old head unit and voila - cdc and phone worked fine, put the new one back in and no phone no cdc! Will I have to get Mercedes to reprogram?
Is there a compatibility issue with Audio 20 head unit models? Visually and cable input wise they both seem identical.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Because its a new unit it will need to know what it's fitted to and what is in the most ring in order to work, so you will need plugging in.

Auto-mobile has given you the answer, but i fear Australian MB dealer will need more info.

They need to do the 'MOST retrofit' Star Diagnosis procedure, which is done using Star Diagnosis in the AGW control unit, (or Audio-20 if no AGW control unit shows up). If that doesn't make it work, he will have to configure the MOST fibre optic bus (again in the AGW) as
AGW/Audio-20
CDC
Phone
to make it work, and then do the MOST retrofit procedure to ensure ring order is correct. (different versions of Star Diagnosis behave subtly differently in this area)

if you are in Sydney, in fact go and see benzmodz - he will be cheaper and get it right BenzModz

Thanks for the response and advice! I thought it would just be plug and play but guess I should have done some homework first.
