I have had to remove my door lock on the drivers side to change the spring in the lock due to the dreaded machine gun rattle! When I removed the key locking element of the handle on the outside of the door there is a wire connected to it. The car is standard i.e. not keyless. I can only assume that it sends a signal to the motor to unlock when a key is used instead of the remote. So does this mean that if I have a flat car battery the key has no mechanical link to the lock, as I could not see one. There does seem to be an area at the top of the internal lock that could maybe trip with the key but I did not examine this closely at the time.If indeed it does have a mechanical link then what is the wire for?

OK sorted,
It's to send a signal to all the other locks to open them when you use the key. Yes, there is a mechanical device on the end of the Key barrel that operates it. Just me being dumb!
