W211 e320cdi 07 plate how to check rear shocks

Good advice. What I don't want is the car height too high are too low, I have seen that after fitting new springs the car becomes considerably higher, even when springs purchased from MB. The shockers I can get no problems, and I don't really want to go down the second hand route unless they are off a low mileage car and there aren't many of them now. I've had a look on the parts catalog but again it lists 2 types of spring for rear same part numbers, and 3 for the front again same part number its all about the colour markings.

Do you not think springs on a higher mileage car would of been changed . You can see by the condition if they are newish or not . You also need to count which slot the cup ring is sitting in on the shocks you remove from the car . Altering it's setting determines ride height.

I understand where you're coming from but for the price I think I will be getting new ones maybe eibach or Bilstein springs and trw shockers, and yes I have seen the adjustment slots. Thanks. I've asked a friend who's got a similar car to check his colour markings on the front and I am taking a rear wheel off later in the hope of checking colour markings on mine, I know for sure there are no colour markings on the front as they were fitted in my absence, I don't even know what make they are.

What about any decent make spring from Autodoc that says it’s for a Sport E class , provided you match the description with the front and back they should be fine ?
I was lucky that I had original colours on my Avantgarde so a careful read on Autodoc allowed me to match Sachs springs .
I would bet that different colour dots on a spring for the Sport model would have almost no difference between them , especially when you car suspension (parts of it ) are from 2007

I used autodoc . I matched the shocks part number to my chassis , I then went onto eBay ,searched for the same part number , spotted a few legs using the same shock and I got my paint markings via this process. I did use a bit of nouse as well calling the mb parts dept saying I think my car has the wrong springs fitted can he double check my paint markings , I gave him some balloney colours and he said , oh no you should have 2 yellow 1 green.

Same set up was used on the w219 and parts for those went to 2010 I think 🤔. Also worth a search .

I might just phone MB again tomorrow use your strategy 😁. I have seen the markings on autodoc in fact that's where I'm getting my parts.

I had Mercedes supplied front springs fitted to my W211 2008 Sport and were under £60 each from the dealer.

What colour markings were they please

Just got it in time I think, the paint is peeling off. The colours are blue and green on the rear.Screenshot_2023-06-04-14-47-41-39_92460851df6f172a4592fca41cc2d2e6.jpg

Yeah the sports springs have around 2 loops less . Avantgarde touring springs sit even lower , so he probably fitted classic springs .

Alot of places fit new shocks and don't even know about the height adjustment ring ,hidden beneath the cup.
The ride height cup is usually on the spring , the shock does not control ride height.

Does anyone know the correct colour markings for a w211 e320cdi sport 2007 front coil spring. Mercedes won't tell me 😳
It's because they probably don't know the answer. I must say some of our members on here are oversimplifying (which admittedly should be quite simple) an utter minefield when it comes to buying springs and spring pads for MB cars.

Remember if you have not owned your car from new you can not really rely on the spring colour code , unless it also has an MB p/n alongside it.

Did the last owner get it right if/when he replaced the springs ?

I have done a lot of work/setting on motorcycle suspension which is way more sensitive than the stuff we are talking about with right now but the basics are the same .

If in doubt the spring can be removed and measured in so many ways to get at least close to knowing what it is . I appreciate thats beyond what most of us want to do and we have to rely on (conflicting) advice from MB and other vendors.

I am in that position right now , I will be fitting my new rear shocks and springs soon but I will have to wait until all the bits are out before I can find out which one of 4 different thickness spring pads are fitted to my particular car.

Please don't aske me to give MB my VIN for the answer . I have consulted 3 different MB dealerships in the UK and 2 here in the USA where I am currently working.

They all come up with the same 4 different part numbers. They represent pads 5mm , 9mm , 13mm , and 17mm thick . So obviously important to get right...otherwise MB would not have done it.

My guess ? on a C55 AMG ? The 5mm ones. I will let you know.

I was still the owner but I was not in the country when it snapped. I believe the front springs that are on are wrong because the car is higher at the front than the back and the diameter of spring is only 13.2mm.

I was thinking the front and rear length of spry should be similar but the front ones are longer looking at autodoc, I'm really tempted now to go for the Sachs ones as they have colour coding too.
