W211 e320cdi 07 plate how to check rear shocks

If you can find on eBay legs like these ,that match your shock absorber part numbers, the springs should in theory be correct .

I disagree. regarding the springs , who knows when they were last replaced if bought off Ebay ? maybe the person who replaced them had the same conversation we are all having right now , and inadvertently fitted the 'wrong' springs .

not having a go , but this is a bit of a minefield for all of us with older MB cars.

My 2004 e320 with sports suspension had 2 yellow and one green . L6 not V6. The spring itself was a coil and a half shorter than comfort springs . But of course all 4 springs were fitted to the car before I bought it ,so most likely all 4 were wrong. Just as well my local mb dealer confirmed they were correct . 👍👍

I used autodoc . I matched the shocks part number to my chassis , I then went onto eBay ,searched for the same part number , spotted a few legs using the same shock and I got my paint markings via this process. I did use a bit of nouse as well calling the mb parts dept saying I think my car has the wrong springs fitted can he double check my paint markings , I gave him some balloney colours and he said , oh no you should have 2 yellow 1 green.

Same set up was used on the w219 and parts for those went to 2010 I think 🤔. Also worth a search .
Went in person to my local dealer very nice person in the parts department sorted me out no problems. 1 green and 3 yellow markings should be on the front. Just in the process of ordering off Autodoc. 43% off today 😜

This was my horror journey on rear springs ^^^
Well just finished doing my rear springs and boy did I lose some fluid not to mention the foul language that unintentionally erupted when something went wrong. I have done all sorts of jobs on my car but the awkwardness and tightness of these rear suspension control arm and knuckle bolts was epic. Why have a mix of Allen bolts, triple square bolts and normal hex. Bolts, just stick to one type or maybe that's too easy 🤨.
Anyway I'm glad I have done them because both my rear springs were broke the passenger side rear was in 3 pieces and from the looks of it they must have been broken for sometime, also the old E320 looks a bit more sprightly 😜
Tomorrow I shall make a start on the front.

I’m impressed buddy , I still have mentally recovered from mine yet ;).
Good job

Good job. Squeaky bum time squashing the front springs . You have to get nearly every loop touching just to get the nut back on the shock. I used 5 clamps per leg when I did mine . The fear factor was in the high teens out of 20 .

Thanks pal. Hope the front ones are easier, should be really as I've recently replaced ball joints and arms. I don't fancy using basing spring compressors though.Once I've got both sides off I've decided to go and see a friend who's got the pneumatic stand type.

Very good plan!
