Hi,

My lovely car suddenly has no drive. Reverse is fine but there is little or no drive in forward gears. It's been absolutely fine and normal for the past 500 miles.

Looked at the fault codes and there is one for the O2 sensor and one for gearbox control unit.

Having searched on here it seems that maybe a fluid/filter change and a new sensor might sort it.

Is that right?

Any advice gratefully received supposed to be going on holiday in it on Weds!

Thanks

Jon

Thanks for your suggestion. The car had to be towed by the RAC so I've left I a good garage I know but they are not specialists so all suggestions welcomed so that I can send them in the right direction.

Just been looking on the forums and seen some comments about re aux battery. I do remember reading on the scanner that mine was discharged. Do you think this could be the cause?

The problem has to be the gearbox as D and R are mechanical selections.

p.s. Your car doesn't have an auxiliary battery and it is a 5 speed gearbox.

Hi

Thanks for this. My car is def 7G I have the vin spec sheet. The faults code definitely said battery fully discharged which can only mean the aux battery as the car starts and runs fine.

The car isn't a W210 then.

No W211 as in thread heading. 2005 but 2006 MY.

Any suggestions?

Ok so today we changed the tranny fluid and filter and fitted a new aux battery and O2 sensor but sadly no luck. Car still does not have drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jon

isnt there a electric portion to the bottom of the gearbox with a plug going onto it at the side? ive heard these can give trouble. Sorry i dont know what the correct part is called

Thanks for your speedy reply. Is that the speed plate or something?

Sorry to hear of your dilemma.
I cannot understand why there are so many gearbox problems with modern cars. It is something that was never thought about, they just carried on working for the life of the car.
I have had horrendous problems with my E270CDI and still not sure it is sorted properly. A lovely car ruined by a modern design fault.:wallbash:

Well it appears that the box is US. Apparently there is a piston through the side of the box.

Anyone got any ideas of how to solve this without completely breaking the bank?

What a pain!!!
