w211 e55 amg strange engine noise?

hi guys,

past 2 days this has happened and its got me worried,

the car starts and performs perfect, HOWEVER on cold starts (happened 3 times now) i get this noise! it seems to come from the right hand side of the engine (when stood in front of the car)

it goes away fairly quick and then doesn't happen again for the rest of the journey or day...

are you getting very cold air from the vents on maximum settings

It will be your suspension pump. you may have a tiny leak and its pumping it up when you start up. if it goes fairly quickly then i wouldnt worry.

as alps has said is your air suspension ok, ie is it dropping

Just read up on it, emissions on start up, if its not throwing any warning codes then it may be just a loud pump?

But it is normal to run on start up.

Suspension goes up and down all level all as it should, raised to comfort then raised to sports all fine or any in between and get no noises.

lol, they don't just go loud for no reason, get it checked out and changed if required, it should show up on Star and from memory could be relay related, so check this first.

If the pump is still functional then there will be no faults on star, you are correct that there have been issues with relays and fuses on these before, but that would only throw up fault codes if it was not working.

I do agree it should be checked out, the OP has described the car as operating correctly at the moment, but it does sound like its on its way out, but then again it might not.

Nobody has mentioned cost yet????

That's one way of doing it!!

Its working, it only runs for a short while, leave it till it expires, then you have options.

Only makes the noise when it's cold outside I have found, I mean starting to frost cold lol
