Arrgh.

Had mine for a month now. When I bought the car, the dealer replaced the front discs and pads as the old discs were rusted.

I think everything was fine but within that time since, it's started to squeel, quite loudly, in certain braking situations.

I allowed 200 miles for them to bed in.

Seems to be at slow speed e.g. when in traffic moving and then stopping but not immediately - the first time it seems ok and then gradually starts - almost like as the temperature of the brakes starts to rise.

If I leave the braking at 1mph or 2mph a bit later and brake slightly harder, no sound.

I've tried braking hard from say 60/70mph to a stop - no change.

I understand these cars have brake by wire - which explains the somewhat numb feeling I seem to get.

It doesn't bother me massively but it is the first car I've had this on and I can imagine people trying to work out if it is that bloody Merc making all that noise...

:D

I thought a London Taxi had pulled up behind me first time...

:dk:

Same with my car.. I thought it was just because their new, but i've done 5000 odd miles since they were new and there still doing it..

I've read suggestions of copper grease and similar but I assumed people were joking (like try 'oil' or 'elbow grease') as I thought brakes would be the last thing you'd want to lubricate!

At least it is not just mine then...

yep, shims havent been greased properly, just regrease and all should be ok

Where can i get this done? Isit an easy DIY? or a quick - QuikFit job?

Kwikfit --- pleeeeease no!

find a local indi , best place, i think..

loads around london

I'd sell your car if it needs work long before you consider using Kwik Fit...

I shall be taking that request to Wright Tech (Sidcup, South London) at some point.

I did find a post on here where someone has had a go at changing discs and pads on a E320 but I am not sure I am that brave on an AMG...

if you have done it before its not that hard, just got to be carefull as the w211 has SBC system, best leave it to the experts and still have fingers at the end of it.

I think the OP of that thread did too and suggested a way around it.

To be honest, I probably don't have the right tools and no copper grease - so to spend money and have all that sat around for months not in use is a waste of time.

Rather pay that towards someone with the kit and more importantly, the know-how!

Then I can wash it again and do a spot of detailing so I can post it up.

Apparently the grey is called 'Grey Tektite Metallic'...

Cheers for the advice.

Hi, if the dealer changed the brake discs & pads less than a month ago, then why not go back to them? They should fix it! Assuming the dealer is within a reasonable distance?

Good point but the garage who did the work first time round are a Maserati specialist. Given this is not their bread and butter, I'd rather use a Merc specialist.

I'm sure greasing shims is probably a similar exercise regardless of brand but even so...
