W211 E55 to W213 E63s

Just sold my E55 after 12 years of ownership. Now looking to move into E63s or dare I say it here a Panamera e-hybrid.
I’m interested if anyone here has made the jump from 55 to 63s and how it worked out/advice.

Thanks
Can't comment on the E55 as I've never had the pleasure. However, I did recently move from C63S to E63S and will say that fuel octane is important with the M177 engined cars. You should really only be putting 99 RON in for best performance, anything less should be used as an emergency measure only.

Given my experience with buying unleaded in EIRE (my wife is from County Cork so over there quite often), I would suggest it's hard to come by/impossible to find? - but happy to be corrected on that. There was a guy in Cork city on here with a Stage 2 (I think) C63 who ran it on 95 RON and didn't seem to have any issues (although I'm guessing the tune was responsible for that).

Again, happy to be corrected by someone with more knowledge than me on the subject!

In general though, the E63 is an absolute weapon of a thing and you will not be disappointed if you buy one.

I did W211 E55 - W212 E63 - W213 E63s, with a couple of anomalies in between (Audi S8 and Jaguar XF-R)

There really isn't any comparison between the 211 and the 213, totally different cars with different driving attributes. Actually, the Jag was closer to the E55 than any of the others, mainly for the linear power it put down. The 212 E63 ended up being heavily modified but just couldn't get the power down like the W213 with it's four wheel drive system. An absolute animal of a car though it did encourage fast driving which was one of the reasons I moved it on, I was having too much fun in it and I value my licence. :)

I'd thoroughly recommend you have a good test drive in the E63 before committing but I'm pretty convinced that you won't be disappointed. An absolutely awesome car and the M177 engine is a very impressive bit of kit. There are a few downsides, low speed steering judder (crabbing) being one that is often mentioned on this and other forums, though this is usually sorted by fitting winter tyres. Some don't like the sport seats in the S, I personally found them remarkably comfortable but again, worth that test drive.

Overall I think that the W213 is an incredible piece of engineering and well worth a look. As for your Porsche option, I know nothing about them so can't comment though I did have a hybrid in the form of an RX Lexus. It did a job.

I didn’t - and I don’t think many members have - although a few have owned both. The difference in performance, handling, refinement and interior razzmatazz is in a completely different league - you’ll be blown away, I’m sure.

Thanks everyone. Very useful information and I’m very sad about it as it has been a wrench but I’ve bought a Panamera. My only two options for E63 were in Belfast and that would have meant being raped (apologies for being so crude) for vrt tax (around 18,000€) when bringing it into ROI. I’m not sure the driving experience is going to be the same as I loved the E55K but it was getting old. I’m sure the Panamera4 (2.9L V6) is no where near as fast as an E63s but it’s fast enough. Think it will have far better economy, but more importantly the yearly tax bill has dropped from 2000€ to 170€. I’m excited about going into a Porsche for the first time but I’m going to miss a V8 and I wanted to have one for keeps before they disappear, so I might be back here again. Thanks for all the advice. It’s a fantastic forum with great support among members. Keep it up.

I'm not surprised. I kept my mouth shut but my first reaction was that it's a big power jump combined with ROI tax crucifixion. (Apologies for the crudity)

Brits live in a low tax world compare to Ireland, not that we believe it.

My pal down in Dublin loves his "comfy" hybrid Panamera, and he was a lifelong 911 driver before this.

See how it goes, relish the change, and enjoy that "modest" 460bhp. It's not about the "power," it's all about the drive.

I'll be interested in knowing how you get on with the Panamera.
It's a model I have recently added to my short list of "next car" alongside a W213 E63s
I'll probably be looking at the 4.4lt V8 model, but your observations on the Porsche would be welcome.

Power wise they are very similar… but like you say it’s all about the drive. It’s not like I can use the power on these roads anyway. Thanks

Yes I was looking for the 4.0L V8 e-hybrid but there are so few about and none currently in my price range, but it would have been very nice to have one. Happy to provide my contact info if you want to know how I’m getting on, no problem. Not sure if you can see if info or how it works…

Done E55 to w212 e63(Daves old modified one even more modified!) back to e55 then to a w213 e63s

very very different beasts

E55 - by far the comfiest of all 3, power is usable feels like a small car still which is a positive. you know the e55 so won't say no more!

w212 e63 modified - absolute beast, still feels like a small car and a well spec'd one gave loads of toys. did get tail happy as were only rwd, but still handled well.

E63s w213 - has best of both worlds, driving in comfort is like the E55, usable power but can be a little laggy. I have the sports seats and even though less comfortable than the e55, still wouldn't call them uncomfortable as still felt good after a 11 hour drive to stuttgart. Sport mode is the best mode for daily city driving as throttle response is faster and just feels more planted. Sport Plus you get the lot, super fast, pops and crackles and the thing is lightning fast! the w213 feels a lot bigger than both the others and Dave mentioned the crabbing which only really shows its face during cold spells. you won't be disappointed.

that's a very very quick review of them.

e55 slaughters the new shite :D

The 55 engine is great.........but it comes in the 211......and although its personal taste, to me it does feel very old fashioned (with very old tech)....both to look at and drive. Comfy though....but thats not high on my list of priorities' to be honest.
