W211 Move to GMT

I know this should be simple but how do I get the analogue clock back an hour .

The manual "helpfully" describes the instrument cluster ("Clock") and goes on to describe altering the digital clock that I don't seem to have .

I thought it was satellite controlled & I would wake up on Sunday with it fixed!

If you don't have Comand -use the steering wheel controls to change settings, then press reset button on dash to set.

If you have Comand - Stroll through the Comand settings and you will find the clock , reset time and OK the clock will do the rest.

This is what I was expecting - I thought the Sat-Nav GPS antenna picked up the signal & the clock auto-corrected from that.

OK Using COMAND go to SERV and then the soft buttons for System -> Clock. Ignition needs to be on. Set the clock on that page using the Up/Down arrows, press OK and watch as your clock goes round before your very eyes!

Doesn't seem to be an option on mine to pick up a MSF (Rugby) or DCF77 (Frankfurt) radio signal to set it. Is this available or does it just need switching on somewhere (i.e. how come fuzzer's W211 is doing this itself??)

I can't shift mine........thought it was done by the wheel controls but no sub-menu! I will take a look at the aps50 and see if it can be changed from there......if not another trip to the lap-top man!

Is this from the US Site any help? I'd thought the APS50 would need input from your wheel controls.

On my W211 the only way to change the clock is use the command option Serv and then select system and clock. Then adjust the clock. The clock on the instument cluster then spins backwards.

perhaps there is a Daylight saving mode which adjusts +1 / -1 hour (not linked to any external time clock) if you have it switched on.

I have it on some of my electronic devices.

on my w209 you press AUX on the command, then go to settings, check you are in the correct country and check Dalight Saving Time is on and it should do it all for you. When I go to france for a few weeks I chenge the setting to France and the closk wizzes though 60 minutes. Takes about 10 mins to realise and you have to have VHF radio switched on. (I think)

Looking in the manual (RTFM!) is says W/S211 with Comand uses UTC (from the GPS satellites) to set the clock.

Comand will change the time within 15 mins of changing time zones but, as it uses UTC, does NOT adjust for Summer Time.

You have to go into Serv and set a time offset (i.e. 1 hour or 30 mins) and then it will maintain accurate time and keep the offset in place until next set by you.

Looks like the older/other cars use RDS time from the radio which DOES change with Summer Time.

i never waste money buying comand , so none of my cars that have updated themselves have had comand in them

Mine changed itself too and I don't have command. It's a Mercedes miracle!! 2003 w211 Avantgarde CDI 270. I'd phone up your dealer to check what is supposed to happen.

Why comand doesn't use the RDS time signal encoded on the radio signal, I don't know, but Comand (certainly in 211, anyway) uses GPS time and the owner has to set the summer time offset. One possible reason is that Comand is able to navigate a single journey across Europe through multiple time zones. Only by using a constant time signal can the estimated time to destination by reliably maintained.

Also, I believe that TMC traffic information carries a UTC time stamp, too. In order for dynamic routing to work correctly it would make sense for the Comand system must know and use UTC.

I remember when Vauxhall first fitted a clock driven on RDS time that owners had problems when crossing to the continent as the car couldn't decide what time it was (presumably because in Calais you can still receive English radio stations). The system also could get confused after passing through a long tunnel. Maybe MB think that GPS time is simply more reliable?
