Hi - I have a 2003 E270 cdi (w211) which lost charge on the main battery, jump started it and took it to Motorist discount center who put a tester on the battery and concluded the battery was ok so it must be the alternator thats faulty. Took the alternator off (big job and not a clever idea in hindsight) and took it to local alternator reconditioner who checked it and sayed there is nothing wrong with it and its producing the correct output.
Put everything back together, battery is still not charging, With the car started the volatge at battery terminals is between 11.5 and 12 and gradually reducing so it isnt receiving any charge.
Any suggestions what else I should check before giving up and taking car to dealer or independent garage to get them to charge me a lot of money to tell me whats wrong.
