W211 / OM642 Aftermarket MAF Intake Pipe

I'll give it a go at the weekend when I have some time.
On the plus side I managed to pick up another genuine Batwing very cheap on eBay, it has a small amount of damage around the turbo connector but far less than mine. Means I've got two attempts at cutting to fit the hose 😂

Any chance you could highlight on my photo where you cut the flange off on the Batwing?

Got my hose mod today and to be honest it just looks too big? Cutting the Batwing below the breather side exit looks as though there would not be enough left to securely clamp the host to the Batwing?
You have to cut around lip where the tee spigot ends and then file off any excess

You need to cut batwing around the lip where the tee spigot ends, it will leave a bit of a curve but I filed it flat. Yes it is tight but a hot water soak helped, I am going to try and attach a picture of my effort.

Saying file too large can't send pictures sorry 😔

Take a screenshot of the image when displayed on your phone or WhatsApp it to yourself or someone; both will reduce file size, saved as a new image. You can then upload the new, smaller image.
Okay thanks 😊

A heat gun or a hairdryer, carefully used, will do the job of a hot water soak, and as it cools you can apply more heat if you need to. In the past when four-cylinder motorcycles often had four rubber stubs between the airbox and the carburettor intakes, it was often the only way to soften old stubs enough to get them all to fit so you could get the clips on.

Not completely relevant in this case, but I’ve just removed an aftermarket batwing from a w212 350cdi because the intake air temperature sensors incorporated in the MAF’s were over reading by 25 degrees C, and bringing the engine light on. Buy cheap, buy twice. Just saying ;)
I’ll second that - bought an aftermarket one based in uk, but still Chinese copy, it went into fault and couldn’t reset it so had to go back. Ended up buying genuine one.

I need to do this repair but it's not exactly clear where the cut should go from this thread. I've tried searching on YouTube but nothing there either. Can you guys help please?

Along that line so the lip below is still intact or below which would mean no lip?

So essentially you are removing just where spigot finished there might even be a little curved part of spigot showing but don't worry once silicone is on this won't matter just don't cut too much off as you won't have room for clip to grip.

Interesting solution to the all too frequent oil leakage onto the motor underneath.

I'm very tempted to fit this as a precautionary measure when the CLS arrives. Would rather be proactive than reactive.

I woul replace the pcv too as that can cause excessive oil to pass down small hose into turbo

I've done this job twice. Very upsetting to say the least. If you lift that cover and everything looks dry do everything you can to keep it that way including new pcv and maybe a catch can.

It's meant as a last chance for the bat wing when it cracks and bits fall off tbh . The new style batwing is much better ,it's smaller , more rubber, it's hinged at both ends and the air filters are so much easier to change.

Do you know when the changeover from old to new happened?
