Hi all. Considering an E class V6 to replace my Audi (which I hate, runs like a dog, too stiff and noisy). I also have an S type 3.0 V6 which is just a weekend car. The Merc would be a work horse. I have a budget of £7500 which should get an 06ish? What should I look out for and what is real world mpg? Thanks for any advice.

Aim for a facelift (June 2006 onwards) there was a whole raft of improvements made around that time.

Mpg wise I would achieve around 30-35 locally and 45-50 on a run, however most other 320 V6 owners seem to get 25-30 locally and 40-45 on a run.

whatever you do get it checked by a decent indie and avoid the expensive problems associated with them - and make sure you have a decent warranty with it - and dont overpay - ways of checking price - stick the registration number into we buy anycar - or go to some of the main dealers for an on line valuation - vauxhall used to do it - autotrader also will give you an idea - if you are with "which" you get 5 free valuations a year - walk away from any vehicle that gives you concern - watch out for the "clocked" cars from dodgy dealers etc etc etc etc... looking at the condition of the seats could be a guide to past use - do a vosa check too by asking any prospective seller to provide the V5 document number so that you can do this.
One son has the V6 diesel with 7 speed box the other has the 3.2 litre in line 6 - V6 is smoother, but the I6 is far more economical
