Guys, I can't find the info I need on these alloys. Anybody know, as I'm presuming they're are forged just like the Toliman's (7 X 16 ET37) on W208 CLK?

Name: Toliman.
Size:7.5 X 16 ET42.
Car:W211.
Weight: ?

Simon, am right in thinking those are forged just like the CLK Toliman's?

Yes, they are. I've got a set from a w210, noticeably lighter than my other wheels.

Great, as I'd like to get a set. Working on the basis that the 7 x 16 are around 6-6.2kg, I imagine 7.5's are only well below 7kg, if so that's still bloody light.

Is that for the light weight 3.0 24v? ;)

The best answer I give you is, I'm just collecting parts ad hoc at the moment and I think they'll be suitable on the C230K too. :D

On the subject of my currently pie in the sky W124 Light, how much is it going to cost me to have a Standalone ECU and 6 speed box fitted? No parts, just labour.

If I didn't mention it I found a set of the 7.5 x16 Tolimans, deal done and a great value too. When I get then I'll post up the weight for reference, hoping on sub 7kg.

That's great, less unsprung weight is only a good thing. I've picked up a new set of wheel too, though not as light as yours will be.

I've always been conscious of weight. I think would be fairly handy to get rid of a 100kg on a W124 or a W202 with little or no detriment to day to day driveability. Looking at the W202 (non S/roof) by just changing the wheels, lighter battery, lighter exhaust, replacing the front seats, removing the rears (when not required), dumping the spare wheel and deleting the A/C should, if I go down that road give me the 100+ or the equivalent to an extra c.20bhp. It's cheap 'power', 2nd hand front seats, a used set of alloys and new exhaust system. Along with improved braking and handling. A win, win I reckon.

It would be interesting to see exactly how much weight you can take out of the car, put everything in a box and weigh it all at the end?

Yeah, anything that I'm changing I will note the difference in weight and post up. Wouldn't mind getting the old 'Rough, Rough' C230K down to 1200kg and with an honest 220BHP it should be a nippy and still a totally usable road car.

Question for Carat.

Simon, considering I'm not interested in fitting anything larger than 16'' alloys on the W202, do you think there's any advantage of fitting the W211 Tolimans (7.5x16 et42) I bought? What would I really gain over buying a set of W208 Tolimans (7x16 et37) instead?

Your really only gaining the option of fitting a wider tire, though at 16" it isn't going to matter that much.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. I'll look into getting a set of 7x16 Tolimans. Cheers.

Seeing as you have both, are you thinking of keeping the 7" wide wheels to save weight?
