W212 DRL's

I'm puzzled.

My 2013 E Class Estate (W212?) is an SE, with normal headlights (as opposed to Xenon's) with DRL LED's in the lower front bumper.

During daylight, the DRL's are on.

With the light switch in Auto mode, when it gets dark, the headlights come on and the DRL's go out.

So, how come I keep seeing E Classes, like mine, with both headlights and DRL's on at the same time?

I've been through the settings and the only thing I can do is to turn the DRL's off or on in daylight, but nothing else.

I am missing something?

It's because you got normal halogen headlamps, they switch off the DRL's when the headlights come on.

Only the Xenon headlamps have both the headlights and DRL's on at the same time.

makes sense now, I suspected it was something like that.

I wonder why they do that?
