hi folks,

I wonder can anyone help. I got a drivers headlight replaced on 2010 w212 E350 and the car lay off road for 6 months.
I got the headlights lined on Friday but have been told the drivers headlight has came off a European Mercedes so the high beam is set up for left hand drive and not right hand drive so the beam on full, blinds on coming drivers instead of the hedge. Does anyone know how to rectify this without having to replace the headlight. I bought this off a car parts seller on ebay but it being 6 months ago I won't have any come back even though it was to be a drivers headlight for a UK model. I do see headlight deflectors but they are all for UK cars going to Euro. Whereas I the opposite. The MOT is to be next Thur but I will have to change that until I get this sorted as it would be an automatic fail. Also on the dash I can change to left hand drive but obviously not back to right hand drive as this should be automatic as its a UK vehicle.

So any help would be greatly appreciated..

Welcome.

If you have the old headlamp, compare the Mercedes Benz part number that is stamped on it with that of the new headlamp. They must be identical.

You don't say if the car has Halogen or HID (Xenon) headlamps, but either way you do need a headlamp that came off a RHD car.

?????

The light is a Xenon sorry had to ask my brother. Also the light was on the calibration in the mechanics on Fri so I'm not sure if they calibrate it full or dipped. But he did show me the mirror and on the drivers side and the light was level but the high side of the light was on the right side and I need it the left side. So he stated a European headlight was fitted and it needs to be a RHD drivers side light. I was just hoping I didn't require a new headlight as in total in cost £1100 to get it replaced and there were some sort of workaround for MOT, without the big expense for an older car.

If it's standard Xenon, then the dipped beam will be HID, while the high beam will be Halogen H7.

If it's the newer Bi-Xenon, then both the dipped beam and high beam will HID, plus there'll be a Halogen H7 bulb for flashing only.

The headlamps on MB cars are either LHD or RHD, and they are not interchangeable. I.e., a headlamp from a European car won't have the correct beam pattern for the UK.

On some UK MB cars the beam pattern can be adjusted for Europe, either from the instrument cluster menu or via STAR/Xentry, but it's not the same as having a proper LHD or RHD headlamp, instead all it does is put the bean in a 'neutral' pattern so that it doesn't dazzle oncoming traffic. If you can find this feature on your car, then you may be able to pass the MOT, however it's still not the right headlamp for your car.

Having said that, the best way to verify if the new headlamp is the right one for your car or not, is by comparing the MB part number on the new unit with the old unit - the part numbers should be identical.
