Retro fitting full leather memory seats in 2012 w212 e class cdi amg (besides the trim what is needed)is it plug and play or is a wiring loom needed?

If the seats you are replacing are also memory seats, from another same-version W212 (ie both pre-or post-facelift) they should be plug and play. If not, the memory is stored in the control units in the doors, I think, so you might need to change those, and you may need to have the front SAM coded, though I think it's more likely that you won't. I don't know about the loom.

Just fit them and see what functions you have, or have not, then take it from there.

The seats I'm enquiring about are full electric real leather going into a partial electric(on seats not door cards)crappy pretend leather seats with manual forward and backward adjustment I think Hector's dad has done the retrofit on his w212,but because I'm new I can't contact him directly if you could message him and ask him to contact me in case he has more informtion that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's all a little more complicated than expected to be honest. It is DEFINITELY NOT plug & play.

You need to build 2 new looms to add into the existing plugs under the seat. These connect into the system Can Bus (network) and also supply uprated power cables.

You need to source and change the front door cards to those with memory switches and also change the door control units to ones that are memory compatible.

The memory and movement of the seats is actually handled by the unit underneath each seat with the door switches sending a signal via the Can Bus to instruct it what to do.

You also need to change the power feeds from the rear SAM to the front seats so that they shut off after 10 mins of ignition off otherwise you get a parasitic drain from power being supplied constantly as is the case with the partial electric seats.

Then you need to have a coding session to let the car know that it has these new capabilities or the Can Bus won't be able to decipher the signals being sent.

It is all doable but it is a lot of work, most of it being deciphering wiring diagrams to find power feeds and connections.

Good luck.

Wow now that sounds like much more work than I have time for and am prepared to do,thank you very much for the insight, think I'll just replace the dodgy drivers seat with like for like, sounds much easier, thanks again Hector's dad.
