Hello,

Would anyone happen to know where i can identify what a chime i've found in my 2000 CL500 means? it only chimes one time when i start the engine and start driving, and theres no pattern to when it goes off.

the chime has three notes, (obviously cannot replicate it in words), and just seem to go off at any time - and once it chimes, it doesnt do so again until i go on the next journey.

If anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it! just identifying it would be a good start as its just annoying!!

Faulty seat belt sensor (which I think is a micro-switch in the 'catch' part)?

If you have the phone system and a fixed phone cradle (not bluetooth) could be some sort of text message notification ?

Assyst service reminder?

Faulty seat belt sensor (which I think is a micro-switch in the 'catch' part)?

Have you placed something on the passenger seat that makes the car thing the seat is occupied ?
My Colt does this even though the seat-belt warning light does not come on.

Well, the chime occurs only once after ignition (and could take anywhere from 30 secs to 5 minutes before it randomly chimes), and it goes off regardless of whether there is a passenger in the seat or when there isnt.

Dont think its the assyst service reminder - theres still 8000miles before the next scheduled service according to the comp so probably not that.

There is a phone in the car, but i havent put in a SIM card yet. i suppose it could be a chime that tells me it might not be connected to a network? but theres no indication visually anywhere what the chime corresponds to, and havent checked the phone upon hearing the chime to see if thats the source of the sound but would be worth a go next time!

theres actually a number of random electronic issues with the car that whilst minor and doesnt affect the car's performance, is getting quite annoying and i think the best course of action is to have it all looked at.

So I am thinking about taking the car in for a diagnostic at the MB garage in the next week or so, the guy said it would be around £50. Will report anything to the forum if they find out the cause of the chime and other faults picked up!

In case anyone was interested, since this was a while ago, but After taking it to the garage, the mechanics pointed out the chime may have something to do with the mobile phone in the central console. once the 'battery is charged' the chime indicates it is fully charged. since its quite an old phone underneath the console, the battery doesnt hold its charge very well and hence the chime! disconnected the phone and no longer the chime! months of annoyance cured!!

thank you mechanics at Cornerstone Garage!

Hi,glad you got it fixed. How are you getting on with the car? if you still have it that is.
