w220 s55k Any pointers!

Airmatic is easier and cheaper to look after between the two. Ride with ABC is far superior.

I would dismiss the W220 based on the engine alone. That chassis shines with the V12. Some may disagree but that's my personal experience from owning a CL55K.
 
Not a fan myself on the shape as even considering its age it looks really old hat.

lol ive had around 5 w126's so it looks modern to me lol, But yes compared to a w211 they do look dated.

If you're looking at S class then I'd look at the Biturbo's...as far as the ABC , well one might feel you're living dangerously...is there no spring kits for these ?

As most S-clases are although they are still nice to drive, I dont drive fast or hard tbh. Re Bi-turbo coil packs scare the devil outta me lol

But yeah i think a w220 would be to much up keep for me if i'm honest.

I have one and I LOVE it. Can waft along with the best of them but goes like the clappers when required.

It's got the wrong wheels on it though, those are from the non Kompressor version.

Can you tell us your thoughts on why you would dismiss this engine option on the S class? I am interested in one of these at some time in the near future and would appreciate your thoughts/experience.

I bought a CL55K (which shares the same platform with W220) after owning a CL600 TT for 1/2 year. The difference between two cars was not in favour of V8K. V12TT is much more refined and powerful engine with higher tuning potential and rewards. If this is not something you're looking in the car, than S55K is more than adequate. It's just what you compare it with and what you're looking to do with your car.

The comment was also made in relation to the OP's hunt for E55K which will be a lot more enjoyable than S55K given shape & weight advantage. Again, if performance is not something OP is looking in the car himself, than S55K is a very capable car.

Not discouraging, just sharing my views. :thumb:

How does the Cl600 compare to a E55k in performance because of lower weight etc ?

Stay with the search for an E55K Gav, the S55K doesn't have the same appeal, just on looks alone!!

Yes simon1966, i think a e55k would suit me better for i need from a car,The ABC alone puts me off the S-class but i don't think i'd entirely dismiss one if it was really good.
