Will soon have removed a mates S320 diesel engine

Car is a 2007MY year version

Engine has seized due to an oil leak

Any recommendation on engine rebuilders?

Anyone have any technical data on torque settings?

Many thanks

Paul

I have access to Autodata which provides torque settings etc but the is a stack of info, I can look up specific items from more detailed data, e.g. engine code. As Autodata say con rods must be replaced as well as the bolts it doesn't look a cheap d.i.y. sort of project.
2nd hand engine not possible?

Think bout £800 for bearings/gaskets/seals/rings. Then what ever else needs to be replaced maybe valves, repair to cylinders, so it could get expensive

I think a replacement engine is the way to go or you could get a rebuilt engine from Crewe for about £3000.

S320 engine code is OM642.930. I've been told that other OM642 engines should fit the S-Class, for example the E320 has a OM642.920 engine, this engine has a different sump pan and something about the vacumn pump location, but I've been told it "should" be compatible.

If an engine has seized from lack of oil or oil pressure I would generally expect damage to crank and cams with associated bearings as well, though only a strip and detailed examination will tell.
My Autodata only has 642.922, 642.922, 642.940 and higher codes so I can offer no figures for 642.930, sorry.
My remark about replacing con rods was for 642.920/922 so may not be relevant to your engine.

Yeah, its very hard to tell

Any advice on engine removal?

Take it the box needs to come out with it as well?

It's easier to lower the complete engine, gearbox and front subframe out of the car and then lift the engine from the subframe and remove gearbox afterwards.
Discharge air con, disconnect steering column from rack and leave on subframe.
It's not as bad a jobs it sounds, did lots of crank shaft bearings under warranty this way.
