Hi everyone!

First post here! Thinking of getting a 2017 S-Class 350d with about 50K on the clock.

When does the timing chain need to be done or does it not need to be done at all?

Also any advice on buying one, please?

Thanks!

Not till it starts rattling, as long as there’s been plenty of oil changes, preferably a lot more often than every 10k (5k would be my limit), you’ll get at least another 100k, before it will need looking at. Oils cheap, metal ain’t. 😁

This is a timely post - I'm looking for something similar after seriously considering an E63. FYI have an earlier version of the OM642 in my W212 - I think an updated version is in the S350d. Mine has covered 208k without any rattle so far. I've also seen some S350d's with 150k-200k+ for sale - Hopefully this may indicate they can swallow up the miles without any problems - as long as oil changes are frequently done, as I've done on mine. Good luck with your search.

its a "how long is a piece of string" question !!!! a well serviced and looked after engine will do big miles without a chain swap, but a mistreat one might need one far to early, you just never know ???
