Hi All - I use a W204 as my daily driver, and it's been pretty solid.

I'm looking to but a W246 (B180) for my daughter to learn to drive in. An opportunity has come up for a 2013 model,

1.5 B180 CDI SE MPV 5dr Diesel Manual Euro 5 (s/s) (109 ps)

Car is a 2013 model, and from what I could glean, there may a possibility that this has a cambelt, as opposed to a chain.

I asked the dealer if the cam belt had been done, he came back to say there is no evidence of this, and quoted me a price for a cam belt and water pulp swap.

On further checking, I realised that the car may actually have a cam chain. I obtained the VIN and checking MBdecoder, it seems this has the R4 DIESEL ENGINE M607.

I'm getting mixed results when searching online as to whether this has a chain or belt - can anyone offer any advice, please?

TIA

This looks fairly conclusive:

Thanks @SpikyMikey - that does indeed seem conclusive. The car has really low miles (53K) not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing for a diesel - but from what I understand the belt replacement schedule if 10 years/120K miles. Not sure I'm going to be going for it given they've quoted £739.55 inc VAT to swap the cam belt and water pump, so what was a good deal starts to look like quite an expensive deal...

Is that the Renault engine?

Good plan. Get her a Yaris to drive as they have a timing chain.
