Morning guys, here`s my dilemma , other than owning a W638 . 110cdi (2003)

Drives like a train has a recent new battery, been driving great , jumped in it last night and click...click...click nothing....gave it a push down a hill ..2nd gear, dip the clutch and away she goes...... after work it needed a booster pack to start her. but would only rev up to 3000 rpm`s whilst stood still. Gets her on the road and goes up to 60-70mph and nothing more ( limp mode ) No warning lights. Swapped the battery for my car battery and started first time.. Could this be an Alternator issue ( bear in mind i had no warning lights. )
Vito battery has been on charge over night.

Any ideas ? greatly appreciated..

Does it go into limp mode or has it got a limiter added by previous owner? Not uncommon with a lot of company vehicles. And keep in mind that some are geared very low and effectively are at maximum speed at NSL.

As for the battery, it is easy enough to test the alternator output (should be 14v or slightly higher, I believe but will stand corrected).

It was the alternator ...had a wire short out , battery to alt for the dash warning light , some how as its shorting out it had nicked a hose or burned a hole ..resulting in my 3000 revs only.. now hose and alt and running a dream :) £288. fixed or robbed either way back on the road :)
