My sister is looking for a C-class coupe and has seen and test driven this one in Clapham, London:

2005 MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS C220 CDI PANO ROOF LEATHER ALLOYS CD HEATED SEATS

She said it all looks nice and drove fine but there was a lot of rust on the brake callipers.

I'd be very grateful if someone could spare the time this w/e to have a look at the car, not just the callipers but the car as a whole.

Please PM me if you need more details or to chat about it.

Many thanks,

Will

edit: does anyone know whether the callipers should be rusty? I said not. the dealer said it was because the car had been sitting around. I didn't understand that reasoning. The discs maybe, but not the callipers. Made me wonder whether it was a seaside car and if there was more under body rust. Worth a more detailed look at least i think.

Will:It can`t be the calipers mate, the discs as you`ve said yes.I could pop down either tuesday or wednesday if you like as at the moment i`ve got to much going. If that`s ok with you, just let me know,i don`t mind at all.

Hi. Thanks for the offer.

She said it was the callipers that were rusty. I did question her and she seemed quite adiment it was them. I guess only another pair of eye can confirm. They're usually steel castings, right?

If no one else steps forward I'll let you know on Monday if an inspection is still needed.

Thanks again.

Calipers do get surface rust on them sometimes, usually nothing serious, just need to be cleaned with a wire brush. The calipers on my E55 had surafce rust but it was a 2001 model. I'm not 100% if the later ones were made from a different material though which don't rust...

It may be that your sister just saw that they were rust coloured and assumed the worst...

Try asking Willow132, he has STAR too so check for any fault codes.
