You are going to be lucky to buy something that with all the attributes you are looking for so cheap... A mate of mine has just paid £900 for an old 1.5 diesel Corsa that 6 months ago you would have picked up for £300. It's the sign of the times sadly, Low fuel and VED costs for small cars are pushing up the prices of these small cars. I usually see some bits and pieces for sale. If I see anything, I'll keep you in mind.

For cheap small cars you are actually better buying new or nearly new.

or even something on a £100 per month lease.

I don't have £100 a month to spend otherwise i would. Costs to-from work are around £250 a month on diesel and i know that if i get a smaller car (petrol/diesel) i can save money on each month and keep the mileage of the bigger car.

I picked up a 2000 (W) Astra 2.0 DI for Lorrie in April for £1400.. now I'm seeing them at £2400!!

If I'd seen this last week a friend was selling Corsa 1.4 petrol for £300.. but snapped up now.

Exactly! Bigyin, You may find a cheap Fiat for about £2-300 but with service history, T&T I very much doubt it? In fact some people think that scraping cheap cars is financial better! Worth more as scrap.

Hi there,

Why not consider running your car on biodiesel or veg?

Will

Piper Alpha - yes i've heard that scrappies are picking up cars for £1-200 as they can then sell them as scrap for more!

Will - Yes i have. However since i'm mechanically inept and i need something that will get me from A to B with minor issues i'm not doing it just now. A few friends and i have tentatively talked about setting up or own refinery but nothing has come to fruition yet...

Bigyin, My mate is picking up a Fiat Panda 55, petrol later today. If it's useable are you interested? May have pleanty of MOT but not sure about TAX. The body is in Excellent condition, unsure on the engine as it hasn't run for 3 months.

sent you a PM..

Fiat 4 cylinder mechanicals will do incredible mileages with only minor faults, silly things like oil leaks but not much else.

I'm not convinced that a £200 banger will save you any money if you are as you say, mechanically inept.

Far more likely instead to be an awfully unreliable money pit unless you're pretty handy twirling spanners.

sounds good to me. i'll be able to get my hands on a pug 106 1.0 petrol for a few hundred nearer christmas from my wee bro' but he has to get another car in the meantime... plus he's using it for the Mongol rally next year... ;)
