Wanted urgently R129 SL500 engine :(

Hi everyone,

In desperate need of a 119982 SL500 V8 due to the misjudged lending of my vehicle to my wonderful brother!!
Would much prefer a complete engine from a car that is breaking.

Any info on the whereabouts of such would be greatly appreciated

look in ebay plenty breaking w129 but need to check and take previous mots and any history with the cars, what actually is wrong with yr engine

No he didnt steal the engine.............
The original engine snapped its cam chain during a 120mph+ pursuit of a M3 CSL.... My wonderful sibling decided that it would be a good idea to show the young driver of said BMW how an older car could perform!
Sadly it didnt for long.
Camchain wrapped round crankshaft smashed of oil pump and drive chain, smashed through timing case, smashed a whole in one piston, bent several valves and bent two con rods!
All in all parts were quoted at in excess of 3k and thats before all the time was added.
Still looking but thanks for the pointers, have already tried Margesmithy, no joy at the moment.
Coming to the conclusion that it may get sold as is, the sight of it everyday is becoming as depressing as my brothers initial phone call "Hey mate, I think there is something wrong with your car........"

120 mph is not pushing an SL500 that hard ... IIRC the unrestricted top speed is over 170. M-B V8 cam chains do occasionally let go, with predictably serious consequences. It's pretty rare though, and I'm not sure that driving style is a big factor (given the auto gearbox etc.).

But anyway good luck with sourcing a replacement - hope it all works out.
